About Helena
Helena is one of Team Great Britain's bright prospects for
the games. In September 2005, the 30 year-old yachtswoman
was bronze medallist at the 2.4mR Open World Championship
2005 meet at the Marciana Marina in Italy. She was also the
highest placed female yachtswoman out of a total of 88 competitors.
Redhill-born Helena is currently based at the Royal Southampton
Yacht Club. She started sailing at the age of 8 and competed
in her first race when she was 12. She won her first event,
the Topper Open Meeting, in Poole, Dorset in 1988 when she
was 13.
Charles Russell will be providing legal advice to Helena on
commercial and sponsorship agreements to enable her to attend
the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing.
Jason Saiban, Head of the Sports Group at Charles Russell,
said "Helena is an extremely talented yachtswoman
and we are delighted to be able to support Helena as she prepares
for Beijing. As someone who has previously competed successfully
against able-bodied sailors at the highest level, she is an
example to us all."
Stephen Park, RYA Olympic Manager added: "During 2005
alone, Skandia Team GBR 2008 won 32 medals at World and European
Championships, with Helena contributing three of those medals
for the team, including Bronze at the 2.4mR Worlds. With just
over two years left until the 2008 Paralympic Games, Charles
Russell's support comes as a great boost to Helena's programme."
Helena said: "I am delighted to be receiving support
from Charles Russell for my campaign for success at the Paralympic
Games in Beijing in 2008."
