In the current economic climate, with margins
getting tighter and the next job more elusive, it pays (literally)
to be aware of matters which can affect the success of a tender
and the profitability of a contract. This breakfast seminar,
aimed primarily at contractors, but of interest to those involved
in the tender process and those that administer contracts,
will give practical and directly applicable tips to ensure
that opportunities to maximise revenue are not lost.
Topic 1: Public sector construction procurement
- how to bid successfully under the EU rules
Stephen
Rockhill -
Construction Associate
While aspects of the construction industry (such
as house builders) are suffering from the credit crunch, the
public sector construction spend continues to rise. Stephen
will offer an insight into the tender process under the European
Rules, how it works and what makes a successful tender. Significantly,
he will give practical guidance on what to do if you are not
successful and opportunities for recovering some of the not
insignificant cost of the tender process.
Topic 2: Contracts - pitfalls and opportunities
Kimberley
Eyssell -
Construction Solicitor
Looking predominately at the JCT and NEC forms
of contract, Kimberley will review the various notice requirements
that must be complied with for a claim for extra time and/or
loss and expense to get off the ground. Kimberley will also
consider the right to suspend performance and what happens
if a contractor/sub-contractor becomes insolvent.
