Legal 500 Directory 2006
Charles Russell LLP's 'effective' clinical negligence team is headed
by Richard Vallance, who successfully mediated one of the highest
ever 'nervous shock' settlements for a mother who had witnessed
the traumatic delivery of her baby who died at the age of six months.
Clients appreciate his skills and 'ability to achieve positive results
in style', whilst fellow practitioners regard him as 'one of the
best clinical negligence solicitors in the business'. The experienced
Stephanie Code also wins praise, as does rising star Edwina Rawson
who is 'very conscientious, excellent with clients and gaining an
enviable reputation for her quantum skills'. Another up and coming
talent is Stephanie Prior who is 'earmarked for great things'.

Legal 500 Directory 2005
Charles Russell's solid clinical negligence team is led by highly
experienced Richard Vallance, described as 'quietly passionate and
extremely dedicated to his field of work.' The group handles a high
proportion of maximum severity and high-value cerebral palsy, head
and spinal cases, with a rise in birth injury inquiries. In addition,
a committed vCJD team advises trustees in relation to the vCJD compensation
scheme. Richard Vallance and partner Stephanie Code are applauded
for their skilful contest of strongly negative medical opinions
given by leading medical experts in several instances, such as Hills
v North East London Strategic Health Authority, a £1.25m and
50% liability settlement for a child brain damaged at birth.

a cyst near her spine. The department is also acting on behalf of
the vCJD trustees in relation to the compensation scheme.

chairman of the Claimant Clinical Negligence Practitioners Group,
and a mediator in the Court of Appeal. His team includes qualified
midwife Sharon Yap and 'friendly and exceedingly capable' associate
Stephanie Code. They obtained a £3m pay-out for a birth-injury
victim and advised on a complex case involving delayed treatment
of a cyst in 2001."
